Luxury amidst the fiords

Fiordland - 6 Nights

Doubtful, Breaksea and Dusky Sounds, and Preservation and Chalky Inlets

We host small-group adventures on board the Fiordland Jewel in Fiordland National Park and Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site.

Our cruises are tailored specifically for people who are interested in scenery, history and nature and there are some opportunities to fish to catch a feed.

A maximum of 18 passengers.

All nine cabins have fiord and sea views and a private ensuite and are fully air-conditioned and heated.

DAY 1

Fly via helicopter from Te Anau and land directly on board the Fiordland Jewel which will be waiting in Preservation Inlet.

DAY 2-5

Cruise through Breaksea, Dusky Sounds, and Preservation and Chalky Inlets.  We may do activities such as:

  • Bush, island and beach walks including the most south-westerly point of the South Island, Puysegur Point
  • Visit historic Captain Cook and Gold Rush sites
  • View incredible wildlife - Dusky Sound and its surrounding fiords are havens for marine and bird life
  • Watch our crew dive for you to enjoy a lobster lunch or dinner
  • Some fishing to catch a feed
  • Kayaking and tender boat excursions
  • Launching the (ROV) remote-operated vehicle, which provides high resolution live underwater footage.  View enchanting marine life beneath the surface in real time from the comfort of our boat lounge.

DAY 6-7

  • We'll start to head back north through Breaksea and Doubtful Sounds. At Doubtful Sound on Day 7, you'll disembark and take a coach over the Wilmot Pass, a boat over Lake Manapouri to return to Manapouri.

Of course, the weather is central to a Fiordland experience, so the itinerary of your cruise may differ depending on the conditions on the day.  The above sample itinerary is from Preservation Inlet ending in Doubtful Sound, Doubtful Sound to Preservation Inlet is in reverse.

We recently sailed on Fiordland Jewel and it was a truly amazing experience. We highly recommend Fiordland Discovery and the Fiordland Jewel. It is a great way to discover one of the most beautiful parts of Aotearoa/New Zealand - indeed the world. The scenery is amazing - whether wet or fine!! Great walks along the way - and yes boots are dried and warm for the next adventure! Thank you to the crew for the wonderful insights into the history, stories, food and outings on the tender.

Neil and Greg, Greytown, New Zealand

It was our first ever cruise and was Fiordland Jewel's first trip post Covid-19 lockdown. What an incredible trip!! Rob and his crew were excellent and well prepared for cleaning and sanitizing as we travelled. He and skipper Dave were so knowledgeable about the Fiords and everything there is to see and do. Amazing sea life - we saw humpback whales, dolphins, seals and a wide range of sea birds. Exploring the islands and bush was fantastic too. And the helicopter trip off the boat, incredible! Anyone considering a multi-night Fiordland trip, seriously consider Fiordland Discovery! They know their stuff!

Ben, Tauranga, New Zealand

Thank you Rob ,Tulli, Ben and Jack for looking after us on what was a most amazing cruise in Fiordland.
Crayfish, Blue cod, Terakihi , all served up to us and then the most amazing scenery was thrown in for good measure.
Truly an adventure we will not forget and are now sharing our photos and memories with our friends.
